Maceo Plex

April 27, 2012

Though this post might be a little late due to his surging popularity and worldwide acclaim, I think we need to take the time to cover him because, well, the beats are just too damned good. There are so many things I can say about Eric Estornel, known to the world as Maceo Plex , but for the sake of brevity I will say two words: prolific and genius. Signed to the distinguished record label Crosstown Rebels, Estronel is one of our very own, born and raised in Miami, Florida. First making a name for himself in the 90’s as Maetrik while DJing in the Dallas area, his skills on the decks have become so acclaimed that he went from not even being on the radar to Resident Advisor’s top 5 Djs of 2011, a first in its history.

Estornel is an extremely prolific individual who has released 5 EPs and a LP since 2011 alone. His sound is dark and sensual type of house, stringing together such a wide range of styles and influences that like many contemporary electronic artists it is somewhat difficult to pin him down within one scene or another. His first full length, Life Index, is a breathtaking masterpiece that is a treat to listen to from beginning to end. To be honest, every one of his releases I have had the opportunity to listen to is solid gold so…if you find yourself stricken with doubt, sadness and squareness I would highly recommend a heavy dose of Maceo Plex to get that bounce back in your step.
