Girls Names

June 24, 2011

Hailing from Belfast, Northern Ireland in the U.K. comes Girls Names. The three piece consists of  Cathal: Guitars/Vox, Neil: Drums and Claire: Bass. Girls Names’s band pronunciation bugs the shit out of me but at least their music doesn’t! The band makes up for it with their simple yet infectous pop songs. So much so that it caught the attention of two reputable labels, Captured Tracks and Slumberland both of which who have great talent on their rosters. They grabbed my attention when I heard their cover of the Twin Peaks theme song “Falling”. If the series were still on I’m pretty sure David Lynch would have loved to incorporate their music onto the show. At times their jangly guitars and monotonous vocals sound a bit like the Crystal Stilts and the Beat Happenings. There’s a mix of Surfy/60’s do wop in there for good measure. Check out the mp3s/videos below.
