Can I get a Slap, Slap?

January 12, 2011

I’ve often wondered what creates a great artist, and it seems these days that you can’t get away with being just one thing. Just ask Indie-Punk-Electro band The Death Set. Their music is a delicious blend of genres that will have you moshing, fist pumping, & booty shaking up & down the damn stairs, in the grocery store, & obviously on the dance floor. What’s more is they’re not just musicians, they can put together, a great video, a great mix-tape, & a great piece of choreography for you to enjoy over & over again. By choreography, I mean of course, their latest work the “Slap, Slap, Slap, Pound, Up, Down, Snap”. Make no mistake, the handshake is a modern dance for pedestrians, a delicate communication of props, daps, confirmation, & reaffirmation that life is fucking good. It’s a universal thank you that is spreading like wild fire across the US. And isn’t it about time someone brought back a good handshake in a big way? As if that wasn’t enough, they’ve even put together a clever instructional video & a song to go along with it. So now you can indulge in a good “Slap, Slap…” through a variety of mediums. My favorite way to take it, however, is with a good friend. Their new single “Slap, Slap, Slap, Pound, Up, Down, Snap” is available on iTunes, but for you freeloaders I’ve included an mp3 of their kick ass mix-tape Artificially Sweetened. Their new full length album is due out this March on Counter Records just in time to catch them live at The Vagabond in Miami on March 4th. You better start practicing your “Slap, Slap, Slap, Pound, Up, Down, Snap” because if I see you, we gonna give it whirl!
