Dirty Beaches

November 30, 2010

Coolness. Beatnik vibe. 60’s cinema. These are things that come to mind when I hear Dirty Beaches. Alex Zhang Hungtai’s voice is reminiscent of singer Alan Vega of the band Suicide. Originally from Taiwan but has since moved around quite a bit all over Canada, finally settling in Vancouver. He’s had multiple releases, 4 EPs and handful of 7″s from various indie labels. His latest 7″ true blue is the most pop he’s ever been and to me it sounds like a step in the right direction. He was scheduled to perform at Grand Central a few weeks ago alongside Golden Triangle and headlining act Crocodiles but because of a sudden family emergency in the Crocodiles camp the entire US tour was cancelled. We hope to see him in the near future somewhere near South Florida. His full length LP is coming March 2011 through Zoo Music!
