Jaakko Eino Kalevi

November 22, 2010

The picture above reminds me of the bad guy in the possessed painting from Ghostbusters II, but there’s really nothing bad about Jaakko Kalevi. How the hell has this guy gone so unnoticed for so long? Everyone is making music nowadays and indie record labels are popping up all over the place, I understand it’s hard to keep up sometimes. Has anyone heard of Helmi Levyt out of Finland? Yes it’s a label and besides being home to JAAKKO EINO KALEVI, their catalog also houses KUKKA, MIKAEL H. & SOME SIBERIANS, and JOOSE KESKITALO.  Kalevi’s full length “Modern Life” came out a few months ago and I guess we can categorize it under disco pop (although he specifies “other” on his myspace). The best part is probably the album cover, at first I couldn’t tell if that was a chick or a dude which made it slightly more intriguing. As I downloaded “Modern Life” I felt like this was going to be either hit or miss. It’s a hit… all the way!
