The State Of Remixes
Have you noticed the buttload of emerging talent in Miami lately? It seems as though there’s a wave of new artists down here helping us catch up with the rest of the country (or world for that matter). We’ve got Millionyoung, Entresol, Panic Bomber, Air Zaire, ANR, Afrobeta, Kentsoundz, Danny Daze, Otto Von Shirach, Kabuki Iron Colors and Hydroplane on the electronic front. And The State of, The Jameses, Raffa & Rainer, The Black Rabbits, Jesse Jackson, Ketchy Shuby, and more holding down the other genres. The cool thing is that it doesn’t stop with local bands, we also have some pretty ambitious remixers/producers repping the 305 with their tasty derivatives. These guys are taking it one step further by remixing some of these bands and contributing to the pool of Miami music goodness.
A great example is the phaXas and SpinnZinn remixes of The State Of. Phaxas is best known for her work with Organicarma and also for her live sound engineering all over the city. SpinnZinn got his rep from his show Bassment Sessions on WVUM 90.5 FM and his sick Tech House DJ sets at various clubs (plus Ultra Fest). And if you don’t know who The State Of is (damn shame if you don’t) below is a self introduction along with some other info we wanted them to share. These gals have really left a lasting impression on me with their incredible energy, enthralling live performances, and overall talent. Read on:
We are The State Of, an all female indie pop duo from Miami. our setup consists of vocals, synthesizer, keyboard, drumset, and drum sampler. we are interested in the juxtaposition of dark and light-creating music that is melancholy and minor but to a fun and danceable beat. it’s this combination mixed in with the organic nature of how we play every sound live that captures who we are. it’s been really cool watching our peers in the electronica world find inspiration from our music, and we feel excited about how the remixes have turned around and inspired us. lately we’ve been writing a lot of new material, working on beefing up the bass lines with dirtier sounds and creating a thicker atmospheric environment in the songs themselves. we’re constantly pulling influence from the other musicians around us as well as from our travels. when we’re not home writing and playing, we’re usually on the road touring, leaving for months at a time. keep an eye out for our 2010 Fall tour dates. we leave on Sept 1st for a month and a half to the west coast and back.
The State Of will be playing a tour kick off show tonight (8/25) at The Electric Pickle at around 10:30 pm. Click here for more info.
