Kraak & Smaak

July 2, 2012

Wim Plug, Oscar de Jong, Mark Kneppers are the 3 nu disco/house music masterminds behind Kraak & Smaak out of Leiden, Netherlands. They just released a new LP titled Mixed Feelings off of Jalapeno Records less than a month ago which is on fire!

Check it:

Out now: Mixed Feelings – a collection of brand new tracks, remixed highlights from last year’s Electric Hustle album and the cream of the remixes and collabs we have worked on. It features the killer remixes from Electric Hustle by Solomun, Lovebirds and Psychemagik as well as an album exclusive remix by Max Sedgley of the K&S track Forget About You featuring the legendary soul man Lee Fields on vocals. Three dancefloor bombs off the Kraak Beats series are also included, plus the anthemic K&S remix of Moby – the Day.

Charlotte Gainsbourg & Connan Mockasin

June 30, 2012

I was pleasantly surprised to find out one of my favorite singers would be performing in Madrid while I was there. I was even more surprised and elated to know super sexy Charlotte Gainsbourg would be accompanied by Connan Mockasin instead of him opening up for her. The show was at the Teatro Circo Price not far from the Reina Sofia museum which held a good couple thousand of people. The crowd seemed cheery despite being there at the same time as the Spain vs Portugal game – Spain won the game that night making everything that much more pleasant.

Anyway, besides being an awesome actress Charlotte also performs as a singer and plays several instruments. Many claim her success was due to her father’s fame (Serge Gainsbourg) but after seeing her perform live twice (last time at Coachella a few years back), I can assure you she’s an extremely talented songwriter and musician. The pairing with Connan Mockasin was perfect and she even supported his songs by playing drums and xylophone while he took center stage. Great show!

Elijah Collins

June 28, 2012

I’ve been rockin’ this guy’s shit at the club for a while now.  In the world of re-edits, Elijah Collins produces some of the most dance-provoking and accessible bangers for those who get off on a heavy dose of nostalgia.  Whether collaborating with producers Tee J and Nist or remixing the likes of Markas, Collins is masterful at creating a signature BIG sound with dynamic tracks the never fails to rile up a dance floor. His latest releases, as are all the tracks of his that I own, are off Mullet Records, founded by another fav, Justin Winks aka Casio Social Club.  Pick up a copy of his latest that give Markas’ new single “Love” a heavier hand, or Janet Jackson’s “What Have You Done For Me Lately” a makeover.

Markas- Love (Elijah Collins Remix)

Elijah Collins/Nist- What’s Up Girl?

Elijah Collins/Nist- Love’s Down

Mim Suleiman & Maurice Fulton

June 24, 2012

Maurice Fulton has teamed up once again with Tanzanian vocalist Mim Suleiman to give us a powerful album titled Umbeya off his Bubbletease Communications label.  Originally bringing her talents to the rest in the world back in 2010 with some 12″s on Runningback, Umbeya is now the second Fulton-produced full-length.  The eclectic “world” rhythms of this album combined with punchy synths and Fulton’s contemporary production stylings makes this funky album something truly unique.

Chalk.

June 23, 2012

305 tropiboys Kairo & Josh aka Chalk. are pumping out tracks like there’s no tomorrow. The Chalk. promos I receive from their home town label Dubporn Records are always a rad genre-bending amalgamation of samples and sounds. I’m glad this is all coming out of Miami.

Dubporn explains:

A musical machine, Chalk is constantly churning out quality tracks of every genre one can think of, their specialty being hip hop influenced beats. With hints of Brainfeeder, J-Dilla, and Pete Rock in their productions, Chalk never ceases to impress.

Their latest track, Eurovision is more of a banger….something to get your summer groove on.
