Flash Interview with Reporter
I’m not quite sure where I heard about the band Reporter but I’m glad I bumped into their music. Their style has good energy and could be quite appealing to both indie and electro pop fans. Alberta, Michael, and Daniel hail from Portland, Oregon which has proved to be a factory for really great artists and bands throughout the years. Alberta’s voice kinda reminds me a bit of Yukimi from Little Dragon mixed with some Karen O although the band as a whole has a very unique sound. Reporter was super awesome about responding to interview questions, which in my book makes them A -OK!
Here’s our report:
ND: What was the first professional step you guys took as a band? Getting a manager, creating a marketing campaign, registering with BMI?
R: We have never been professional about anything in our lives. Unless you consider the front side of our drummers mullet “professional”
ND: What’s the biggest audience you’ve played for and where?
R: We threw an impromptu warehouse party ourselves with only 3 days notice hoping we would get 300 people there. We estimated 1200+ showed up. It was terrifying and amazing all at once.
ND: In your opinion, what town (worldwide) has the coolest music scene? What’s so special about it?
R: Portland Oregon of course. So many talented, innovative musicians here its unreal.
ND: If you could pick any visual artist (throughout art history) to design your album cover who would you choose?
R: Dan Flavin. He does amazing things with light. If you’ve seen us live, you know we’re obsessed with light and utilizing it.
ND: What’s your advice to musicians and bands that are trying to get their name out? How have you gone about it?
R: Write good not bad music and put yourself out there.
