Tamara Sky: Pave the way girl!
I’m thrilled that one of my fellow Miami girl DJs took home the New Times Best DJ Editor’s Choice 2010 gold medal. Tamara Sky has been in the scene for years and is finally getting the hometown props she deserves. I can’t remember the last time I saw a female win this category and it’s great that it didn’t go to the same 5 dude DJs we hear about over and over again – no offense guys but it’s true.
Thing is, Sky gets booked all around the world and that’s why we don’t see much of her in the 305. She’s out there representing though, which makes me proud. I’m glad to have a girl DJ from Miami (ok originally Rican, but who’s really from Miami these days except for a few of our dads?) throwing down and schooling boys all over the place. Besides being an awesome DJ Tamara seems to have many other talents as well: modeling, graphic design, drawing, production, and photography. She even makes the cover art for her mixes, which by the way are flawless. She’s tight on the decks, has the looks and style, and makes dance floors throb.
